There’s an old Neil Sedaka song, Laughter in the Rain, that speaks about walking hand-in-hand with the one you love. In the rain.
Friday morning just as I was pulling out of my neighborhood to go to school, I witnessed the most adorable act of kindness. It was raining out, and I live across the street from an elementary school. I saw a dad get a small girl out of his car ever so carefully, holding the umbrella over her the entire time, sheltering her from the rain. Then he walked her across the street and down the sidewalk, hand in hand, into the school with no umbrella on him, but he let her hold it at her short stature to keep her dry as the rain pelted upon him. He was soaked to the skin!
I rolled down my window, and told him what a sweet dad he was to do that. He laughed, and said, “Oh, is it raining?” It made me cry. Happy tears, of course. 😅
I love those moments in life where God gives us glimpses of his love shown through others to restore our hope in the goodness of mankind.
When’s the last time you gave up your umbrella to someone younger, older, or less fortunate than you?
My husband always does things like that. In fact, very recently, he gave up his umbrella after walking out of a downtown meeting to an elderly lady he’d never seen before. ☔ He’s just like that. I love that about him!❤
Here’s to the rainy days in life. May you always have someone to carry your umbrella. If not literally, your heavenly Father is always there to offer his umbrella of protection. Let’s all stay under it to avoid the consequences we have to “weather” when we don’t.
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1
