Ageism in the workplace.
It’s real. Many our age are experiencing it. Everyone wants to hire that 20 something year old just out of college. They’re young. They’re attractive. They’re on fire to make their mark.
But what about those 50 somethings? That have finally become empty nesters, and know what they want to do with their lives. They bring with them a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. They’ve lived through those years of taking and are now ready to give back. They don’t miss work because they partied too hardy the night before. They don’t have sick children at home causing them to miss work.
I just turned 58. I was blessed to find a new job this year. At my age. In a new career. Only because I chose a field that is desperate for employees. I have a heart for working with special education children. It’s a win-win. For me.
But maybe not you. Not everyone is so lucky. They’ve been down-sized. Laid off or replaced by younger, less expensive employees to keep around.
God doesn’t look at age. Noah was 500 years old before he became a father. And look what he accomplished!
Let’s not have prejudices against our elders. Let’s embrace their wisdom. Let’s encourage them to remain active and involved and independent.
Here’s to having more birthdays! And paychecks to go along with them!
Even to your old age and gray hairs i am He, He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4
