In honor of Oktoberfest, which many of you celebrated this past weekend, here’s a little Tulsa trivia for you. A fun fact.
Did you know that our own fair city of Tulsa holds the title of reintroducing the chicken dance in the United States?
The name of the original Swiss song was Der Entenanz, the duck dance. It is rumored to be a drinking song sung at Oktoberfest. In 1981 during the Tulsa, Oklahoma Oktoberfest, they wanted to demonstrate their love for the dance in costumes, but there were no duck costumes available anywhere near Tulsa. However, a chicken costume was found at a local television station which was donated for use at the festival, giving the chicken dance its name.
Beer and brats aside, who doesn’t love to move and shake a little when they hear the chorus of the infamous chicken dance? It’s contagious! Even David danced before the Lord!
Let’s all worship the Lord with our song and dance! Like rhe chickens, let’s strut our stuff! We all have something to be joyous about! Who knows? On a good day in October, you just might catch all of us doing the chicken dance during our brain break in room 309.
And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod. 2Samuel 6:14
Love and laughter,
