Friday I stopped at Target on my way home from work to pick up a wedding card for a wedding I was attending on Saturday. As I was perusing the cards for that perfect sentiment, a lady appeared behind me asking me if I’d seen any great granddaughter cards. I turned and replied I was only looking at wedding cards.  She moved on to the next aisle.

I was immediately convicted for not offering her my assistance, so I went up the next aisle in search of birthday cards. I found the birthday cards personalized for daughters, and granddaughter’s then I happened upon one and only one great granddaughter card all by itself.  What were the odds? I quickly picked it up and the hot pink envelope along with it, and found the lady in the adjacent aisle. I asked her if she was still in search of a card for her great granddaughter. Was it for her birthday? She said yes and she hadn’t found any. It was her third store she’d gone to today. She would try again tomorrow at a specialty shop before her birthday dinner with her great granddaughter.

I showed her the card I had just found. She was elated! She asked me how she could repay me and began to cry! I told her she just did. With her joy. She shared with me how special her great-granddaughter was to her. So unselfish. She wanted the perfect birthday card for a great granddaughter, and I’d just found it for her. I gave her a hug and told her to enjoy her birthday dinner with her great granddaughter, and went back to my wedding cards. I found the card I wanted and headed to the checkout. There she was in the line behind mine telling the young man checking her out how this beautiful lady helped her find just what she was looking for! Awe! She was talking about me! She told him now she could go home and rest. I was touched. By her kind words and more so that I had listened to God’s gentle nudge to help.

How about you? Do you slow down and listen to God’s gentle prompting?

Let’s all slow down. Let’s not let life’s hectic pace keep us from hearing God’s gentle prompting to help others. I promise the blessing you’ll receive back will be double fold of what you give to another! My little lady’s granddaughter may be her great, but the moment we shared was even greater!

Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go, he’s the one that will keep you on track.    Proverbs 3:6

Love and laughter,
