I am a lover of gift cards. I actually prefer the personal, hand picked gifts from the heart, but who doesn’t love to find that unexpected, unused gift card to Target or Starbucks in their purse every now and again?
I worked at an elementary school the past two years. The go to gift for Christmas, birthdays, and Teacher Appreciation Day was a gift card. Starbucks and Target seemed to be the most popular choices. I greatly appreciated them! I usually got so excited about them, I’d run right out and use the first couple of them the day I received them. Then I’d put the rest in my purse. In that zipper pocket. You know the one. The one you soon forget about. Especially if you change purses very often.
I’m sure you know where this is going.
Just this week I had a two hour break between work and my class, so I had planned to use that time to run a two part errand that sent me from St. Francis to the court house to south Tulsa. I had just enough time to spare to squeeze in a fast food pitstop for lunch before sitting for a four hour class.
I remembered my gift cards! I found one for Raising Cane’s chicken. I hadn’t been there in forever, and it was strategically located between St. Francis and the highway to downtown. Perfect!
I went in, ordered, and gave the young man my free meal card. Oops! EXPIRED! June 1st. Ugh!
My advice to you. ALWAYS read the fine print.
No worries. I paid for my meal and all was well. Bummer though that I let that expire.
That got me thinking. I had planned to stop at Nothing Bundt Cakes after class, it was across the street from the building I would be attending class in, and pick up a few bundlets for dessert with our dinner. I had the email for buy one get one free on my phone. I might just want to check that.
So I went through my gift cards, and this is what I found.
A $100 gift card. EXPIRED.
That one hurt!
Don’t be like me! Don’t let your life pass you by. Don’t become EXPIRED.
Let’s all live our lives being current, keeping up with what we have and what we do. We only have a limited time here on earth. Let’s live it to its full purpose and potential.
I don’t know about you, but I plan to do my best to be my best before I EXPIRE. And you can pretty much bet on this girl paying attention to any future gift cards, and using them before they EXPIRE!
Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. James 4:14
