Today is Memorial Day.
The day we honor the fallen. Those that went before us. Those that served their country. And we also honor those that served their family and community. By decorating their graves and flying flags.
My mother’s body now resides at Floral Haven. They are known for their Avenue of Flags. Flag flown for veterans. Some 5,000 of them this year, I heard.
It’s a beautiful sight to see. With each flag, you can almost imagine those fighting in battle. You can almost smell the gun powder. Hear the burst of gunfire. Feel their fear as they entered enemy territory.
I can’t imagine what it would be like. To go into battle. I’m ever so thankful I don’t have to. With that I say thank you from the bottom of my heart to those who did. And still do.
We live in a world where we have always had battles. And most likely always will.
Today let’s all be thankful that there’s one battle we do not have to fight. None of us. The final battle. Between good and evil. It’s already been won. It’s not ours to fight, but God’s.
Enjoy this Memorial Day, whether you’re at the lake, at home, or having to labor. And thank a veteran. Thank those who today offer their service to protect this land we call free. Freedom isn’t free. They’ve paid the price and are still paying. Just like Jesus has for you and me.
Happy Memorial Day!
The Lord says this to you: Be not afraid or dismayed at this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chronicles 20:15
