I had the most delightful dinner last night. It was a close race between the company and conversation and the food for top billing.
It was my first time to experience Bonefish Grill. My daughter had recommended their Bang Bang Shrimp. And that is also what Miss Marilyn ordered. How could I resist?
Yum! It tasted like a little bit of heaven on earth. It had a little kick to it. I do like a little kick. A little bit of spice. How else could it warrant the name bang bang? I thoroughly enjoyed it. Until I got home that is.
Rewind. Every day something crosses my mind that is blogworthy. I just know it. I feel it. Sometimes it’s an event. Sometimes it’s a picture. Sometimes it’s a verse. Sometimes I just sit and wait on God to lead me. Without fail, every day, God supplies. In one way or another. Today I knew it was the event.
It soon would be our last day of school. Friday. There are four of us in our classroom. We’ve been together the past two years. A teacher. A speech pathologist. And two paras. I love these ladies dearly. I’ve been so blessed to be a part of Miss Marilyn’s room. Miss Marilyn is retiring this year and moving away days later. I wanted to honor her. Show my appreciation to her for providing me the foundation she has for me to teach a classroom of my own this upcoming school year. So she and I went to dinner. Her choice. And Bonefish it was.
Once I got home I went to God’s word in search of a scripture to go with my event.
Bang. No such luck. Next I tried shrimp. Bingo! I found a fitting verse. My only problem was I did not like what I read! 🙁
Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination to you. Leviticus 11:12
Eating my bang bang shrimp was an abomination? A disgrace or evil? Nooooo!😢
I was heartbroken! Had my joy been seen as a disgrace to God? According to the laws of the old testament, yes! Ugh! I eat shrimp often! And I’ve never given it a thought that I’m sinning! Now the dessert that often follows, now that’s more what I’d consider sinful! 🤔 But tonight we had refrained.
So I once again went to the scriptures. I found that as new testament believers, we are not to use the old testament laws as the exclusive basis for our morality. Jesus came to set us free. We need to use the word of God consistently. We are to study the whole counsel of scripture and live accordingly.
Let’s all stop being bottom feeders like our friends the shrimp. Let’s rise to the top and live according to that which Jesus has instructed us to do.
Congratulations Miss Marilyn! You will always be loved, and most definitely be missed! ❤
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
