One of my favorite children’s songs each Halloween is Raffi’s Five Little Pumpkins.
It’s a hit every year with every one of our classes.
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate. First one said, “Oh, my, it’s getting late!” Second one said, ” There are witches in the air!” The third one said, “But we don’t care!” The fourth one said, “Let’s run and run and run!” The fifth one said, “Let’s have some fun!” Oooooooh, went the wind.
And out went the light. Or at least in Raffi’s spooky Halloween song, but not in real life. There is no reason to be afraid of the dark. At Halloween time or any time. The light of Christ shines brightly in the darkness. The evil, the darkness, can never extinguish that light. Let’s all let our light shine bright as well to light the darkness for others to see.
Don’t let Halloween scare you. The pumpkins. The witches. The wind. The darkness. Instead let’s all have fun at the pumpkin patches. Carving or painting pumpkins. Choosing costumes. Trick or treating. It’s the end of summer. It’s about to roll out of sight. ‘Til next year. Just like our five little pumpkins.
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
The light shines in the dark, and the dark has never extinguished it. John 1:5
