Today is my birthday. I’ve reached the age where birthdays no longer bring the excitement of becoming a year older. Now I’m pretty excited to just be alive and kicking. 🙂 I’m alive and well. And I’ll probably go down kicking and screaming as I fight this process called growing old. I love Walt Disney’s explanation of it, “Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.”
It is mandatory. Everyone has to do it. But until I breathe my last breath I plan to remain young at heart.♡
That may just be why I so enjoy working with children. Playing with my grandchildren. Children keep me young.
This week I’ve been blessed with not just a birthday, but a week of birthday celebration! I started the week off Monday with a home cooked dinner of smoked brisket with dear friends. On Tuesday I was taken out for popcorn and a movie. On Wednesday my three year old friends in my classroom gave me baskets and bags full of gift cards, candy, homebaked cookies, lemonade, kettle corn, and a candle! On Thursday my other three grown up friends in my classroom brought me my choice of lunches and birthday treats. Chick-fil-A southwest salad and a Nothing Bundt Cake white chocolate raspberry bundtlet.Yum! ♡
I have no definitive plans in place for today, my actual birthday. I plan to just enjoy it as it unfolds. It already began with an original rendition of Happy Birthday sung to me by the man I love. Too cute! 🙂 Sunday I’m spending the day with my 3 daughters and grandchildren. Food trucks, caramel apples, and the pumpkin patch followed by big kids food and beverage. Fun for all ages!
What a special week! ♡
Birthdays are special. They are the day each of us were born into this world. The day we began our journey.
We celebrate a very special birthday each December. The culmination of a journey Jeseph and Mary took that brought forth the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He came to a manger wrapped in swaddling cloths. His birthday was nothing special for all practical purposes. A lowly manger. But it was the ultimate in special with whose birth it was!
Let’s all continue to celebrate birthdays with those we love. Make them feel special. But let’s never fail to celebrate the ultimate birthday every year, the birth of Christ. For He brought us The ultimate gift. Eternal life.
Thank you everyone for making my birthday so special! I love you all! ♡
And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 2:7
