Mental Health

Good morning!

Mental health is important. The human mind is a fascinating thing. It’s the most complex of all our body organs. But sometimes it does not work as it should.

Did you know that 1 in 5 adults experiences a mental health condition every year?  One in 17 lives with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

Mental illness is a condition that affects a person’s thinking, feeling or mood. Do any of you know someone who has been diagnosed by a psychiatrist with a mental illness?

I do.

It is a disease that usually cannot be detected from the outside. It is not physical. There are often no outward signs such as limps or rashes. Therefore with it often comes the stigma of crazy. Shame. It is oftentimes hidden. Not talked about.

It’s time we quit hiding.  Start talking. Educate ourselves about it.Bring it into the light. Bring light to the darkness.

There is one source that is our light. That is Jesus. He can remove the scales that blind us to this disease. Soften our hearts to see it for what it is..Offer understanding and compassion and healing to the broken.

Let’s all offer our prayers and our love for these individuals with mental illness. Prayers that they find help. Through counseling.  Through the proper medication.  But primarily from the love and support of their family,  friends,  coworkers,  church members. Let’s all educate ourselves to better understand their reality. Let’s show them the light of Jesus. To break their chains of bondage. To offer them full enriching lives. Together we can do it.

The mind is a beautiful thing to waste.

12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”                     Johtn 8:12

Love and laughter,
