Its hot! The dog days of summer are almost upon us.
Dog Days is the name for the most sultry period of summer, from about July 3rd to Aug. 11th. It was named in early times by observers in countries bordering the Mediterranean. The period was believed to be from 20 days before to 20 days after the conjunction of Sirius (the dog star) and the sun, thus where it gets its name.
All I can say is my dog doesn’t have it so bad in the summet. He goes from the air conditioned house to outdoors where there is ample water and shade. And his very own private pool. Something I do not have for myself.
However you spend these dog days of summer, whether it’s inside sipping cool lemonade with air conditioning or outside dipping your feet in the coolness of a pool, may you be refreshed. Let’s all do our best to stay out of the heat. Not just during the dog days of summer, but forever. For eternity. Jesus is our source. He is our refreshment. Without Him we cannot avoid the heat. The eternal fire.
Here’s to the dog days of summer! They usually mean summer vacation. Or staycation. Wherever you may spend them, may you find refreshment from the heat.
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah
