Today is the last day of my first year working at Jenks West Elementary.
We said goodbye to our students yesterday. Today we say goodbye to our fellow staff. To most it’s goodbye for the summer. To some it’s goodbye for good. Until we meet again.
I want to take a moment to thank all those I’ve met along the way this past year at JWE.
To all my coworkers in Building B.
There is not one of you I don’t adore. ♡
You ladies (Sorry guys, but there’s not a male on our staff.) are the best team I’ve ever been a part of! I look forward to our upcoming year together!
To those of you who are retiring this year, I wish you the very best wherever your paths may lead you. I’m truly blessed you crossed mine.
To all my little friends. Your precious smiles and laughter, priceless things you said, and hugs you gave freely, I’ll cherish always.
To all the parents. Keep doing what you do. Love (and discipline) your children. Give them your attention not your phone, remote, or iPad. Read to them. And thank you for all your tokens of appreciation.
To the staff from other buildings on campus that I’ve interfaced with along the way, I’ve loved our encounters, brief as some may have been. I look forward to more. To Nurse Becky, thank you for teaching me ice and bandaids can cure most anything to a 4 year old.
To all the bus drivers I’ve picked up or dropped off our friends to and from each day. The safety of our children lay in your hands, yet you made those transitions from home to school and back bearable, even fun.
This past school year has been epic for me. Just like anything, it’s had its ups and downs. But it has taught me so much. So much beyond the classroom. About children. About those that teach. About unconditional love. About the human brain. About life. About myself. I’ve found my happy place. My niche.
I’ve learned I need to talk less and use visuals more. I need to perfect my “mean teacher, disciplined, I mean it” look. Thank you Miss Marilyn for that corrective criticism. You’ve been the best mentor anyone could ever ask for! You’re the perfect mix of love and discipline and humor. I want to be just like you when I become a teacher!
Miss Tara, I thank you for showing me your personal style. Your patience with boys, your comparisons: big and small, hard and soft, the sounds of the alphabet: the f says ph, how to request “I want”, how to use Lamp. All the fun and games you use to bring out speech. And that you do. I’ve seen the before and after.
Miss Lacey, you’re the best para I could possibly learn from! From making play dough to organizing art projects to handling meltdowns, you’ve got it, girlfriend! (Even if you were born in the same year I graduated high school.)
I thank you all for being just as beautiful on the inside as the outside. For being God loving women. For walking the talk. For being positive and edifying. For being consistent both inside and outside the classroom. For being you. And for accepting and mentoring me.
I look forward to seeing you all again in August if not sooner. Have a great restful summer! I love you! ♡
Let’s all love one another, and help each other with our gifts, our talents, and our service. Just like the women of JWE, Building B have done for me. ♡
Love one another with brotherly affection. Out do one another in showing honor.
Love and laughter,
