This recent cold front has brought back the fireplaces. Inside and out. I love nothing more on a cold evening than sitting by a fire. Watching the flames dance. Listening to the crackling sounds it makes. Feeling it’s heat.
Fire is something that can be life saving. It creates heat to warm our bodies and cook our food. It also can be devastating. I lost two horses when Southern Hills Country Club Stables barn burnt down many years ago, and my own home went up in flames a few days before Christmas many years later.
We all learn as young children to stay away from fire. You don’t play with fire or you just might get burnt. I’ve had my share of being burnt by the flames.
Playing with fire doesn’t just burn figuratively speaking. Some of our life choices can leave us smoldering. Being burnt by their consequences.
What fires are you presently experiencing in your own lives? What things are you toying with that just might get you burnt?
On these colder evenings let’s all enjoy our indoor fireplaces. Our outdoor firepits. Grab the marshmallows! But let’s stay away from those things that will get us burnt. Let’s leave the consuming fires to our friends the firemen to put out. And God. He alone is our consuming fire.
Stay warm my friends!
The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed.
for our God is a consuming fire.
Love and laughter,
