1975

Good morning!

I attended a 40th birthday party yesterday afternoon. There was an abundance of delicious food and drink for all. It was a beautiful 63 degrees outside. The chiminea was fired up. The outdoor lights were on. Friends and family were gathered both inside and out. There were parents, children, a very special girlfriend, personal friends, friends from work past and present, past students, and siblings. You name it, they were all there. Quite an eclectic crew! All there to honor a life. What a great tribute!  I was honored to be included in the festivities.

Forty years old. That brought me back to the year 1975. One of the birthday gifts was a sign depicting fun facts and key events of 1975.

Where were you in 1975?
I was a sophomore in high school.

Do any of you remember any of these 1975 favorites? Mood rings,Rubik’s Cubes, pet rocks, hip-huggers, bellbottoms, leisure suits, 8-tracks,
disco, magic 8-Balls.

How many of you remember the 1975 movies, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”  or “Jaws”?

We saw the premiere of “Saturday Night Live.” Our President was Gerald Ford.
The Vietnam War ended.
Apollo and Soyuz spacecraft took off for U.S.-Soviet link-up in space.
VCRs were developed..
Computer hobbyists Stephen Wozniak and Steven Jobs began working on computer designs. Together they developed the Apple 1 prototype.
Pittsburgh Steelers were the Super Bowl champions.
Cincinnati Reds won the World Series.

I could go on and on. Such memories!

That reminded me of another birthday that occurred in the month of December. But many years prior to 1975. This one had no party, no food or drink to make mention of, but there were guests baring gifts. Three of them. Three wise men. They didn’t have a string of lights decorating the scene, but instead a star to light their way.

A fortieth birthday is a milestone.  It’s fun for us all to look back to that year and reminisce. How about instead let’s look back greater than 40 years to the manger. Let’s all celebrate that birth.

Let’s not just celebrate His birthday, but His gift to us all. Every day. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. Not just some pet rock or Rubik’s Cube. He brings us everlasting life if we just believe.

I’m in!
How about you?

Happy birthday Jesus!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting  Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6

Love and laughter,

Sandy
