Breakfast this particular morning was waffles. Waffles dripping with real butter and pure grade A maple syrup!
As I said goodbye and leaned over for a parting kiss, the taste of maple syrup lingered on my lips.♡
I blurted out, “Your kisses are as sweet as maple syrup! ” Did I just say that?!
Out loud?! 😦
How corny was that? I’ve succombed to speaking in colloquialisms. All I needed was a “Honey Bun” to preface it or finish it, and I was ready to move to the south for the winter!
But, on a more serious note.
We all could use a little pure maple sugar on our tongues from time to time. To sweeten up our words.
As a child, I remember the rhyme,
“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.”
Words do hurt! 😦
Words carry power. They should be used to edify. But often times they are Instead used to hurt.
I work with preschoolers.
I’ve heard the words “Miss Sandy, he or she’s not my friend anymore!” too many times and witnessed the tears that accompany it to not know differently.
We’ve all been wounded or have wounded others by words that are blurted out in anger with or without thinking. They may no longer echo in the air for the naked ear to hear, but they ring loudly in the heart and memory long after.
Let’s all work on consistently sweetening our tongues and our lips with pure grade A maple syrup. Not the kind that comes from the tree, but the kind that comes straight from the heart.
We all could stand to read and reread James 3 on the tongue being a fire and do some sweetening on our own. And don’t forget to ask the Holy spirit to help! We can’t tame our tongues on our own no matter how hard we try.
And speaking of sweet things…I do love going out for a good breakfast! It’s the best way to start your day! A cup of hot, freshly brewed coffee. Breakfast foods like cheese grits or hash browns or eggs cooked to your liking. Yogurt, granola, and fruit parfaits. Pancakes or waffles. Hot cinnamon rolls or bagels. And top it off with some of the best conversation shared amongst friends or family. You can’t beat it! Anyone want to join me sometime? 🙂
How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Love and laughter,
