Your Epidermis Is Showing

Good morning!

I remember teasing as a youngster and telling my friends, “Your epidermis is showing! ”

Last summer I took college Anatomy and Physiology. I remember being so amazed by how extremely intricate the human body is made up. How all the many working parts interact so perfectly with each other like clockwork. The major organ systems, the heart, the lungs, the brain, the blood, the bones, the muscles. And don’t forget the skin!  We are truly a miracle, fearfully and wonderfully made!

One of the most astonishing parts to me was how our skin holds everything in! Our epidermis Is the top layer of our skin. (By the way, it IS supposed to show. 🙂 )

Our skin is our body’s largest organ. it protects all the other organ systems. It heals rapidly if it is damaged. Our skin keeps all our insides in. And it keeps all the dangerous stuff out, including germs. It helps us stay warm when it’s cold, and cool when it’s hot.

That’s how it is with Jesus. He acts as our epidermis.  He protects us. He keeps all our most inward parts safe so they can perform optimally, especially our hearts and souls. His Holy Spirit lives within us to guide us in keeping the bad out. Just like our skin covers our body, He’s covered all our iniquities with His blood, His hematologic system.

Let’s all stop living our lives skin deep, superficially as the workd does. Let’s love perfectly from deep down in our souls. Let’s thank God for how miraculously we’ve all been created. Let’s be like skin. Let’s protect. Let’s help keep the good in and bad out of this world. Let’s let our epidermis show.

For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth
Psalm 139:13-16

Love and laughter,

Sandy
