It was raining as I left work Thursday afternoon. I witnessed one of the most vibrant rainbows I’d ever seen on my drive home. And I’ve seen some pretty amazing Hawaiian rainbows in my day!
It was God’s own masterpiece painted before me in the sky. I felt His presence.
A rainbow is a bow or arc of prismatic colors appearing in the heavens opposite the sun. They are caused by the reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light. The spectrum includes seven colors. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Rainbows occur when you simultaneously have both rain and sunshine. All four of nature’s elements participate in the creation of the rainbow: Fire (the sun), Earth (the ground it touches), Air (the sky) and Water(rain). Pretty cool if you ask me.
Throughout the various cultures over countless years, rainbows have come to symbolize many different things to many different people. From covenants to bridges to cleansing to journeys end to hope to peace to gay pride.
Biblically speaking, when we see the beauty of a rainbow we are reminded of God’s covenant with us. Never again will He destroy all life with the waters of a flood.
When I think of rainbows, I think of the movie, The Wizard of Oz. It was always one of my favorite childhood movies. Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow was my favorite scene. My most favorite latest and greatest rendition of that song is Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s version. Love it!!! ♡
My wish for you today is may all your rainbows lead you to your own personal pot of gold, whatever that may be. I hope it’s not just material wealth, but those things money can’t buy like love and health and happiness and the hope of brighter days ahead. Or better yet, to the One that created the rainbow itself as a symbol of the covenant between God and man.
I love experiencing the sight of rainbows in the sky! I feel God’s presence every time I see one! And I think to myself what a wonderful world! ♡
12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
17 So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”
Love and laughter,
