Remember The Titans With The Redskins

Good morning!

It’s beginning to look and feel like football season!

Except last night the turf at Union Tuttle Stadium looked a little different than most Friday nights.

Fans were still there to watch football, but instead of the typical 11-man offense and 11

-man d

efense it normally holds, it was covered in blankets and chairs of Tulsans watching the free to the public double feature, The Lego Movie and Remember The Titans. The movies were shown on the north end zone jumbotron. The home side concession stand remained open throughout the evening for food and drink. The Renegade Regiment, Union High School’s marching band, sponsored this fun-filled event.

If you haven’t seen Remember The Titans,  I’d highly recommend doing so. It’s the 2000 true story about high school football coach Herman Boone and the events that transpired as he tried to introduce a racially diversified football team to T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, VA in 1971.

Tuttle Stadium, the home of the Redskins, was open to all ages, all schools, all races, all sexes, all religions, all political parties and all income levels. They all came together. Families with children, sports fans, Union fans, band supporters, couples on Friday night dates, groups of friends, and those just wanting something to do on a Friday night in Tulsa to watch some football in a different fashion. This time everyone walked away from the playing field winners. 🙂

God’s word reminds us we are all one in Christ. Just like last night’s double feature.  We can all come together like minded to serve one purpose. All created differently, but all sons of the same God.

If you ask me it was a great idea for a fundraiser and the Tulsa community. All my kids were Redskins. I now work for Jenks, so I’m a Trojan. I’m all for unity of those two schools whenever possible.  Only one will more than likely take state this season, but together they are all one in Christ!

“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galations 3:26-28

Love and laughter,
