Today, July 24th, is supposedly the hottest day of the year. It’s based on a national average that every state has a temperature over 80 degrees at some time today.
I’m sure it’s hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk somewhere! Or so they say. It actually needs to be 158 degrees to do so. A metal pan or foil is necessary on the sidewalk to be successful.
Here in Tulsa the temperature is expected to be a sweltering 99 degrees. I was expecting triple digits. Still sounds like a pool day to me! Or maybe an air conditioned movie. Or better yet, ice skating!
You may be uncomfortably hot today, but God would far better prefer you hot than lukewarm.
Those lukewarm people Jesus is referring to in scripture are those in spiritual need who can’t recognize it because they think they’re doing great. They are the ones that nauseate Jesus. The self righteous.
We’ve all been there.
We go to church on Sunday. Then sin all week, yell at our family, kick the dog, and play hookie from work, but we are great Christians!
Let’s all cool off from the heat outside, but be on fire for Jesus! Let’s all walk the talk beginning now on the hottest day of the year!
15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
Love and laughter,
